I hate you parts guys...only because I dont have a job with a discount on sweet factory parts or internet access to check out cool sites like this
On a related note, I have worked at an auto parts store for the better part of the last 8 years. I, for one, am sick of being pegged as the "stupid high school kid" (even though I have been out of school for 6 years) or some sort of idiot simply because I don't know what kind of car everybody drives and what options it has. In many cases it is a simple case of some kind of ignorant/arrogant saslohe not getting his way and throwing a fit...which of course is always my fault. I'm sure this happens at the dealership, but I see it alot more as these backwoods geniuses try to fix their own p.o.s. vehicles...rant off
Oh, while I am here, I guess I will respond to the original comment. The dealers have not earned the stealership name for nothing. While it definitely seems Daryl is the exception to the rule, in my experiences both as a consumer and a supplier to dealers, alot of the employees at the dealers are only book smart. And I am sure at some point the dealers/factory/whoever is responsible has aimed to take advantage of parts sold over the parts counter, meaning maximum dollars. Case in point, a while ago I was looking for some door panel clips for my 91 D250, since they are a major pita. After a while of getting pulled off and reinstalled, some became bent. I planned on replacing them and solving my headache. It's only a heavy duty paper clip looking thing, right? Wrong. The "d"ealership parts guy (who I am in pretty tight with, cuts me major deals) told me the dealer cost was like $7 something a piece, list was $9 each. Needless to say, I left without them.
Not to say that the parts guy at my dealership hasn't taken good care of me, but I wish he were into 1st gens like Daryl. Maybe I would do more business there than I do.
