Engie/trans/case tilt angles

Postby RCCUMMINS89 » Sat Apr 26, 2014 9:03 am

Does anyone know the maximum number in degrees one can tilt an engine backwards. Without causing front shaft/bearing issues in the trans and oiling issues in the engine?

Also, can someone give me a stock tilt angle?

My mess is currently tilted back (by my doing on purpose) at 6 degrees. If I can safely run it at 8-9 degrees.... I can them clock the case downward and be ok on my front shaft again as well as shim the rear downward 3 degrees and have all of my driveline angles be ok.

I think you should be able to do it since the pickup will still be in the oil

I'll measure what I have in the 82. It's pretty extreme

Here is the guide that I always refer to. It comes directly from the manufacturer. Note the relationship between the engine front to rear tilt and the rear axle pinion tilt and the specified tolerances.

http://www2.dana.com/pdf/J3311-1-DSSP.pdf

I always try to set the angle to the positive side because the transmission rubber mounts will be guaranteed to sag and settle in.

That is the guide that I used to realize that my angles were way too much.... my overall u joint movement is over double the maximum recommendations.

it'd be somewhat costly. But have you thought about a divorced tcase?? I'm not sure if you'd have the room though.

Yes, I have actually thought of it... but that would be a last resort, and even then... I would probably live with it.
