I have started mine quite a few times in the -10 and lower bracket. Most of the time not pluged to.

The time at -20+ was scary, it friggin snorted, choked and bucked to life. Mine was the only one that started at the drilling rig camp that day for shift change. a couple gassers and a 2nd gen and a 'stroke wouldn't go. Actually, come to think of it, a week later the powerstroke was STILL there!
Same job, our dmax crew truck, which run 24hrs. for weeks on end, was fine. oh, except for the ally tranny, it turned into a block of ice

i started mine at -34 C not plugged in. it sounded like the end of the world. i think the 0w40 synthetic helps some too. it starts pretty good in -40 C to -46 C too as long as it's plugged in. my dads 02 f**d won''t even start at -20 if it's not plugged in.

I was working in the bush a few winter's back and the temp dropped to -42 the first night and -46 the next. On the third day I was shuttled out by snowmobile, got in and hit my grid heaters twice and it started. Not plugged in also but she did some mean rattling and smoking for the first 15 minutes !

Rumblefish's truck started in some -5 weather we got here (coldest in a decade or more). Worn out injectors, dead lift pump, non-functioning KSB. White smoked the whole block and then some...... Entire fuel system got redone after that.
