I've always liked the quality of stuff from napa, but many times they will give you adjuster kits/ maxi kits that will be missing some parts ( usually from people stealing stuff out of kits then Returning them) just check all parts they sell you before you leave the store, I've had it happen to me 3 times consecutively on the last three truck I did brakes on, but I like the quality of parts better.

Advance is ok but I like supporting napa better, they are usually faimily owned.

Save your skin on your hands and find some of these

They're the brake spring tools for the 3/4 or 1 ton trucks.

Nahhhhh... if its your first time doing drum brakes you need to do it like all of us did.... worn out pair of vice grips with worn down teeth so when your RRRIIIGGGHHTTTTT there and almost have the spring hooked it slips off and your hands go flying twards the edge of the shoes at 900 miles per hour

...or do what wise mister Ellis said

FYI, replace your wheel seals at the same time if you didnt know that allready, they dont like to be pulled off then re-installed, sometimes the inner spring will fall of and cause it to leak.

also, sometimes its easier to pull the whole backing plates off the truck and do it on the shop table, its relitivly easy and only takes 4 bolts to get them off

Thanks everybody. Somthing i was also woundering is does it matter what order you bleed in and if i do a new master cylinder a guy told me to benchbleed it. Can anyone explain with alittle more detail what hes talking about?

When you get a new master cylinder it will come with 2 little fittings and hoses. Fill the master up and screw the fittings into the and attach the hoses running them back into the top. I use an extension in the place where the rod goes and pump it like you were pressing the pedal. You can hold it like I do or place it in a vice like most do. Bleed farthest away from the master and work your way to the front. Passenger rear, drivers rear, passenger front then drivers front. Atleast that's how I've always done them.

The master will come with directions that tell you to do what I just did. I'm limited on tools at home so my bench vice is a metal chair and my hand.

yep, as long as you get fluid out of the master before you hook it up your cool, you can do it on the truck with the lines off too, with another person being the pedal man.

ive found that these trucks dont like to give a nice brake pedal unless you bleed some serious fluid out, just did all new stainless lines in a 93 that took 2 masters worth before i got it good.

Did you get your stainless lines in a kit or have to buy em individually?

Okay, I'm getting the truck back to do a Denny t pin and some more tuning this weekend I'll snap some then, they came out great.

I did a 91 with one of the stainless brake kits you can buy online, the are ok but what's the point of stainless lines with alumacoated armorguard and steel nuts? Pluss I had to rebend most of the lines to fit correct.

Did that 91 with stainless/nickle fuel lines too
