Sounds like you might need some front end work first. I've always run stock style steering with a dual steering stabilizer with 35's and up to 44's with very little wandering, but all of your steering and suspension parts have to be in good shape.
My niece has a '87 W150 with 33's and it's horrible to drive. It's all you can do to keep it in your lane, but everything under the front is wore out and she doesn't want to buy the parts for me to fix it.
