2001 Dana 70 with discs swap q's

Postby bigred cummins » Mon Jun 21, 2010 2:00 pm

Just picked up a 2001 D70 with disc brakes and a mag-hytec cover for $400. Is there anything I should know before doing the swap? will the stock proportioning valve and ABS be fine or do I need an after market prop-valve? Are the widths similar? And also is there any parts change-over with the axle I have now?

just so you guys know, the widths are different by a ton, the spring perches are wider, and the brake line is shorter.

You may also have issues with the shock mounts. Some were one front and one rear mount and others were both rear mount.

Yup. Forgot to add that. You need to cut off the ones on the 2nd gen axle if you want to re-use the first gen shock mounts. Its about 5 inches wider than the 1st gen axle.

I did a D80 swap into my D350, and everything but the driveshaft and shocks was a direct fit. But, it WAS a p/u dually, not a SRW- maybe that was the difference.
