Speedo jumping

Postby cougar » Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:13 am

This is a new one on me. After the tranny rebuild on my 92, the speedo started jumping up. All I've ever seen them do is drop. I went over all the connectors and made sure the wires didn't get pinched. The adapter and VSS are on there good and solid. Any ideas?
RIP 91.5 W250 5 speed. The great experiment.

Pull the ratio box out, and see if it turns freely. Also check to see if the pins aren't smooth. If you have a different VSS laying around, you could check to see if it is working properly. Hopefully it isn't the speedo head with some bad teeth on the gears.

I was planning on picking up another VSS, the only thing I could think of that would make the speedo jump up. The adapter was recently replaced, but you never know.

Finally got round to it. The guys that did my transmission broke the VSS. Put a new one in and all is well.
