Postby lumberjax87 » Tue Oct 02, 2012 1:28 pm

My 1990 w250 front wheels are cambered horrible and I cant figure out what it is. Ball joints seem to be ok. And it was lifted before I got it, any ideas?? Thanks

They shouldn't be cambered at all, as the only major adjustment is toe in/out. Got any pictures of it to go along with what you are describing?

How much of lift is on it? Sometimes, with taller lifts, people throw in degree shims between the spring pack and the spring perch on the axle in an effort to help driveline angles, which will slightly affect the steering geometry. Lifts on solid axle trucks like ours are very straightforward and not much needs to be modified or messed with after...

Unless you have something weird, you don't have ball joints. I bet the plastic bushing in the top of the king pin cap is busted. Mine felt fine but was busted up and jammed the king pin inwards.

Yeah, take your tire off and there will be a cap with a grease zerk that's held on with 4 bolts on top of your spindle. On the drivers side I think it's hooked to the draglink but can't really remember. Anyways, take off those four screws, being careful because there's a spring under there, and you'll find a really heavy spring and a plastic cone-thing that sits over the brass kingpin. pull/fight it out and drop the new ones in. They're keyed, so they only go in one way.

They're that simple to change once you order new ones, and make sure you keep them greased.

If it's still cambered, chances are the kingpin is worn out and that's a more involved process that I never bothered with.
