pump gear

Anyone have trouble with pump gears cracking? I've cracked two and just caught them in time before destruction

There have been a handful that I've read on here have cracked in this past year. I'm wondering if its from over tightening the nut on it.

Ya............I've actually heard of it happening a lot. Not sure the cause though.
89 RC on shortened 92 diesel frame - NV4500 w/dual disc/4.10s on 37s. - Self built pump, "hot screw", lots of timing, True high volume low pressure lift pump, 62fmw/68/.7gated, 77lpm SAC Inj., Studs/O-rings,- 423/1220 Mustang - 11/16/2013 http://www.TheHungryDiesel.com full line dealer, if you don't see it please ask.

IF the KDP strikes, it tends to do bad things.
Personally, if it ever came down to having an engine that the KDP was either missing, or had obviously been lost, I'd replace the gear.

I don't trust anyone else's work.

Happened to me,but it was a hairline crack and not but about 2 inches long. Was enough for me to worry about :lol:

If your talking about the gear in the timing case that connects to the pump, yes, when I replaced the injection pump on mine the gear had a hairline crack in it. Its not cheap either if I remember correctly be cause I replaced it.

Factory one on my 92 split when I was doing 70 pulling a trailer bent the pump drive shaft but nothing else I showed it to a friends dads buddy that did prototyping on cummins motors for year's said he had never seen it before this was in 2007
91 d250. 2wd std cab i/c convert 3.07 rears autometer guages htt stage 3 turbo 47rh convert 2 manualy controled od an lockup turns on fuel screw .5 on smoke screw and fuel pin rotated 3800gsk timing jumped 1 tooth retarded on pump settings for now resealed ip to come in spring he351ve and full 4 in ex hopefully injectors coolertubz for the other rig thanks Tim

I have seen one cracked and a couple with teeth messed up... I'm like Mark Nixon, I don't trust anyones work, but KDP in question, I'm checking eveything out!
