Think I just made a huge mistake

Hey all. Installing my boost gauge in my '90. After drilling the hole in the throttle bracket I needed to know if I had the correct size hex for the plug. I did and wanted to see how i would go about putting the boost fitting in so I removed the plug but needed to fine tune the hole a tad and took my dremel to it....without putting the plug back in. I can not describe the sick feeling in my head and stomach at this moment. All those fine fine metal particles! Did I just shoot myself in the foot? I envision all the gobs and gobs of air rushing through the intake and the fuel all focusing into six tiny-holed injectors. I can not fathom starting the old man without knowing what my next move should be. Thanks.

If you're that worried you can pull your intake plate off and vacuum out the intake, but I wouldn't personally. It'll probably end with you having to buy another intake gasket. =\

What bit were you using on your dremel?

I got a small barrel shaped bit just to widen the drill hole. Man I'm really sweatin this STUPID mistake. I read up in the FSM for replacing the intake gasket. Figured I could accomplish that (while concentrating not to f*** it up). Tiny metal particles introduced into the intake (I mean some had to of gotten in there) freaks me out big time.

Why wouldn't you investigate? I know the hole is fairly small but still..

The metal won't affect the injectors any.

I didnt know if you used a sanding bit or a legit carbide burr. I'd be slightly more hesitant to fire it up if burr-sized chips were in there, but only slightly.

I'd just fire it up and let it idle for a while, I know for a fact I've gotten all kinda of crap in my intake with all the crap I do to my truck, it hasn't even whimpered yet.

If it were mine I would just run it. If it really bothers you let it idle for a few minutes to make sure they gets past the turbine wheel, but for some little burr flakes I wouldn't sweat it.

@ptooms ya my mistake. Diesels are new to me. @taco just fine dust is what was coming off the dremel. Hate to ruin the turbo etc. thanks for easing my mind a bit. Just really like this truck

you'll be ok. just start it and let it idle. ive gotten pleanty of crap in my intake and didnt bother getting it out, but thats because i was hoping it would mess something up so i had a reason to put i diffenet engine in.

The intake air goes directly through the valves into the cylinders. Those fine shavings will go through the engine just fine as small as they are and aluminum also

Fine dust will literally vaporize well before they can cause any damage. The second that piston gets up in the cylinder those particles are glowing red and after the combustion they're down the tailpipe.
