Build a pop tester? Or send injectors in?

Postby rebar » Sun Sep 15, 2013 12:07 pm

I think my 1st Gen is kaput. I bought it to pull my 8000 lb toyhauler from Iowa to Colorado and during the first trip it started to smoke white on start-up and not clear until good and warm. Then when I got home I see oil was being pushed out of the top of the dipstick tube.. Great.

So from what I'm gathering, all symptoms point toward a faulty injector or two which might have taken out some piston rings.

Should I send my injectors to a reputable outfit? Suggestions?

Or build a pop tester? Does the pop tester test everything a good shop would?

Thanks

I would just have them done, not expensive for these trucks at all.

I built a tester out of a bottle Jack.....works like a champ. I posted a tread about it on here, and really it didn't cost much to set up. The gauge was the most expensive thing. Now tho,I've done much more research into it and it seems a cheap port o power would work way better.

FWIW and your asking opinion here.....if I wasn't really wanting to Dick around with injectors a bunch or actually had a reputable shop close buy I wouldn't invest the time into building a tester......but that's me :)
I like dickin around with my own stuff and there are NO decent shops around me.

oh and you could expand your tester to pop other injectors ;)

Any injection pump shop should be able to do it.

Check some prices and get back to us. One should be able to get the injectors pop tested for free. It's the fixing them that costs money.
