I talked with the guy who rebuilt it, and he thinks its the clutches sticking due to it sitting without any fluid, and with where it was sitting, on a concrete pad in an uninsulated pole barn, probably had condensation form inside. Said that it needs pressure to release the sticking clutches.
Guess well see, hoping to fire it sometime around Thanksgiving if all works out

If that's the case.....then it won't be long before the paper peels of the clutch plate. One of the main thing about building a trans is you "soak".....not coat the clutch frictions in atf. That alone should have kept them from sticking to the surface.

Recently i developed an odd brake light problem. It worked fine, taillight worked fine, but brake light amd taillight on together made it go out completely. New bulbs made no change. After looking at the mega-crusty sockets, i figured thatd be a good place to start. Between raindrops today i raided the shelf at work until i found some sockets that fit and allowed me to update to a 3157 bulb. Problem solved. I decided to try it on my reverse lights which havent worked since I bought the truck. Another problem solved. I even put in some crazy sylvania zevo leds and now my tails work awesome and i can see where im backing up thru my tint. Very satisfied.

Not much of a Ford fan but my 7.3 power joke f 550 that weighs 16,500 is pulling 11 mpg. Granted it's not interstate but it is alot of 30 mile trips and alot of in town driving.

DF, from what I remember that's about average for that truck. Empty won't be much better though!

I hand calc'd 12mpg once on a 6.4 f-550 once (12k plus a small trailer 2 hours one way, a couple hours of idling, and no trailer on the return 2 hours)

On another note my 4th gen keeps getting water in the front diff somehow.

My new Ferd F750 is getting a steady 8.5-8.8mpg. Seems to improve with more miles on it, it sees everything from PTO idle time to 70mph interstate speed. I don't idle it much, as "big brother" is always watching, and there are always nasty-grams (e-mails) about excessive idle time. Solution? Engage the PTO. The GPS "sees" that the truck is "in use", so it doesn't count against idle time. Got all the line crews and gas construction guys doing it now ;)

Our V10 powered 2015 F550's average 3.5-4mpg

Company is on this "green" kick, a couple locations got new F550 bucket trucks with electric hydraulic pumps on them instead of the traditional PTO. Ok, so what...except they got the same 3.5mpg V10 under the hood instead of the 6.7's. The few 6.7's we have, all have been 100% trouble free. We've lost three V10's to cam failures to date.

Ike, the new Hino is getting between 7 and 9 mpg according to the dash. I haven't hand figured it yet, I just got a fuel receipt yesterday and will check it next time I fill up. Interesting how the newer trucks are getting such good mileage.

I was expecting it to be around 8-9 I didn't expect it to be in the double digits lol. Next year I'll be in a Ram5500 so I'll get to see what its like.

We had at least two 6.7s go down with around 20k miles on them. We switched to Ram in 2012 and haven't had any major problems with them. Most has been recalls and some wiring issues.

Philip. ahhhhhh, sorta. Part of it is me, because I'm not used to air ride, but part of it is the truck. They lowered the air pressure in the tires, which made it less squirmey, then increased the air pressure in the bags, and that stiffened it up a lot. It still sways some, mostly when changing lanes, and if I forget and go into a corner too hot. The corners are scary, you feel it lean, then you feel something shift and lean more. Scary stuff right there.

DF, my cousin was 1st owner of my 1st gen, and loved it, in '02 he bought a F550 with a 7.3, and wasn't real happy. It got awful mileage and the trans went twice, once at 38k and warranty ended at 36 and they said tough crap, then about 40k later. He had it rebuilt by a local guy then and it was a lot better. Last year he bought a new Dodge 5500, and loves it. Mileage is way better than the ford and the truck isn't even broken in yet, and he said it pulls like a freight train compared to the F550. He was asking my opinion before he bought it, and I told him what I thought and to get the Aisin trans and he is glad he did.

So after basically being strung along to the point I wasn't going to be able to pay my bills I've left where I worked since May, and finished up my first day at a new job. It has aspects of my last 2 jobs, so it shouldn't be too much of a learning curve. Dealing with mostly western star body jobs, and few tandem & tri drives. One upside is I'll get to see my older brother more
