Our V10 powered 2015 F550's average 3.5-4mpg

Company is on this "green" kick, a couple locations got new F550 bucket trucks with electric hydraulic pumps on them instead of the traditional PTO. Ok, so what...except they got the same 3.5mpg V10 under the hood instead of the 6.7's. The few 6.7's we have, all have been 100% trouble free. We've lost three V10's to cam failures to date.

We had at least two 6.7s go down with around 20k miles on them. We switched to Ram in 2012 and haven't had any major problems with them. Most has been recalls and some wiring issues.

The morons in charge will only use Ford's, they won't even consider Ram. Heck, even Altec runs Rams. I asked for a Ram when they were handing out new service trucks, and ended up with a F750...although I may have the exhaust brake function going, finally. F'tards that spec'd the truck out didn't think that the exhaust brake would be necessary, but towing a Deere 310G backhoe on a deck over tandem, any improvement with the brake department is always welcome.

PToombs wrote:Philip. ahhhhhh, sorta. Part of it is me, because I'm not used to air ride, but part of it is the truck. They lowered the air pressure in the tires, which made it less squirmey, then increased the air pressure in the bags, and that stiffened it up a lot. It still sways some, mostly when changing lanes, and if I forget and go into a corner too hot. The corners are scary, you feel it lean, then you feel something shift and lean more. Scary stuff right there.

DF, my cousin was 1st owner of my 1st gen, and loved it, in '02 he bought a F550 with a 7.3, and wasn't real happy. It got awful mileage and the trans went twice, once at 38k and warranty ended at 36 and they said tough crap, then about 40k later. He had it rebuilt by a local guy then and it was a lot better. Last year he bought a new Dodge 5500, and loves it. Mileage is way better than the ford and the truck isn't even broken in yet, and he said it pulls like a freight train compared to the F550. He was asking my opinion before he bought it, and I told him what I thought and to get the Aisin trans and he is glad he did.

What tires are you running on the rear?? On our Fords we run Goodyear G622 225/75/19.5 and they are really squirmy until about half tread. I put a newer set on a ford and just driving down the road it felt like it was on grease because of the lugs. Its not really a sway though more like the rear end is going to come around. I don't remember what you're driving though so it may not even be related.

All of our Dodges has the Aisin transmission, I like them I'm hoping to be the first with a 6spd Manual in my service truck. Just to see the difference, that and to stick it to the company since not to many people want to drive a standard or are a lot harder on them.

Its nice that the Dodges comes with the Exhaust brake on it. Most of the operators don't even know about it lol.

I test drove a 3500 ram with the 6.7 6spd manual a couple years ago, it felt just a hair faster than a bone stock 1st gen, wasn't really impressed. I think they are detuned quite a bit compared to the autos nowadays.

DF, 2016 Hino, 25,999 gvw. I was thinking tires too at 1st. When we let the pressure down from 110 to 90 it made a big difference in the squirmy feel. Now it only gets wild when I change lanes with it. Seems to be a combination of slight tire give and body sway.

Remps, The 4500 and 5500 trucks are detuned from the pickups, I can't remember exactly, somewhere around 25 hp I think. And the stick trucks are rated less than the Aisin auto trucks are.

Iirc the c&c trucks are rated 310/610. G56 pickups are rated 350/610. As soon as you tune them though they'll make the same torque as any auto

Yeah the instructor had us do lots of mag changes and they were landing in the dirt. Eventually they started to stick, so I cleaned them and they were good again.

I've been looking at moding some cheap mags with some brass extensions for the base plates.....added weight for a faster drop. Trying to speed up my reload time....I seen a few modded mags an old comp shooter had and really looked like they worked well.
Might help....may not,with the dirt.

Looks like you were shooting well.
