Walrbo and Mallory installed!

Postby oldestof11 » Sat Jun 05, 2010 12:35 pm

So I bought a Walbro 392 about 1 month ago. I also bought the Mallory 4307M regulator 2 weeks ago. FINALLY got it all installed.

Lemme tell you....

IT FLAT OUT RIPS!

So I do NOT have the money for a 1/2" big fuel line from tank to pump. Here is what I did.

Pics will come.

I mounted everything under the hood on the drivers side. I cut the line at the LP and attached a 3/8" rubber line to it. I clamped it down firmly. From there it goes up near the hood hinge to the pump. The pump then pushes it to the regulator mounted to the cruise control bracket. This regulator has 1) AN-8 (1/2") inlet, 3) 3/8" outlets (one plugged, one to gauge, one to filter), and 1) AN-8 return. I put 1 line to the hard line that comes out of the pump. I took the line off the fuel filter and bent it away from the LP. It has a nice little compression type fitting molded into the line. I put the clamp right behind it. I tee'd in the return to the stock return. I cut it, added a T barbed fitting.

I set the pressure at 16psi. No leaks what so ever!

I am happy! :D

Reasons I did it like this:

I do not have the tools to mount to the frame like I want to
I do not want to run new fuel lines
I do not have the money for 1/2" fuel lines
Everything is easily accessible.

Things to do in the future:

1/2" lines from tank to IP
Mount pump on frame rail
Put in a solenoid for the pump
Push 25psi with a retainer snap ring and red locktite on the injection pump seal

Pics to come!

Driving impressions:

Thicker smoke
Quicker spool up (still have stock 18cm housing)
Through first, I hear a LIGHT protest (have a posi) from the tires
Chirps into 2nd
Anything over 30mph, instant spool-up!
2psi boost
Egt's, ???? Ran out of road.
BETTER TOP END!

I did a roll from 30mph, I got to 70mph quicker than I used to get to 55.

Thanks!

Jon

Been running that set-up for a while. It is defiantly a GREAT pump for the price!

Like I promised, PICS!!!

Just to give you a general idea of its location:

The pumps location. This it where (I assumed) a relay went but there was no clip....

The Regulator:

How I Tee'd in the return:

This is the line I bent outwards away from the LP. Notice the bulge right before the clamp. That is what seals the stock LP like a compression fitting.

I HAVE PRESSURE!

I do not know how far it sucks down. Ran out of money and rubber line.

Jon, you're running that pump off the shut off solenoid? You need to get a relay on that and activate the relay from there. The wires feeding the shut off are pretty small, you may melt them. You can get hot power for the relay from the grid solenoids, big wires and they're right there near the pump.

The wire from the pump to the solenoid is the same size. I will get it finished as soon as I find that relay I bought 3 months ago but misplaced....

Go ahead! I am pretty sure I can out run you if I can out run a charging draft horse.

Btw, installed a starter solenoid from a older tractor. Drove 5 miles and now it wont work... Made a jumper wire til I can get that one tomorrow.
