Gauge pod alternative.

Here is an alternative to ill fitting gauge pods or pods that break the bank. I bought a 25 dollar fully enclosed gauge cup from a local auto value store. There is enough room to easily fit three or four gauges on the pillar. I is mounted so that the gauge is facing directly at the driver (can be adjusted to fit you really tall or short guys ), not like the autometer one that only works for 6' 20'' people.

This is the view from the outside, pardon the glare of the glass. The wire is barely visible from the inside or outside of the truck. I took some really thick electrical tape and wrapped the wires in it. If you wanted to go to a little more trouble, you could drill a hole in the trim piece to shorten the exposed wire from about 7'' down to 2''.




Be careful though when you drill through the plastic trim piece, it cracks real easy.

That was the same thing I thought. I like them because I can move them anyway I want, plus I can add more as needed.

Made a dash mount out of a $9 bread pan for my KW truck. Has a fuel psi and a fuel temp gauges in it.

The really nice part about the individual pods is you can always add more without making the pillar look like a cobbled mess.

Until the plastic breaks and they all fall down.
Unless you have them screwed into the pillar itself.

Mine are screwed right through the plastic into the pillar. Without a screwdriver or hammer they aren't falling off. I really like them because you can also adjust them exactly how you want them. I haven't seen a 1st gen pillar set up that I can say is easy to read. Plus the individual pods makes me feel like it is a more true to its time look, back when everyone had tach's on their trucks and cars on the corner of their dash.

I did the same with mine my interior has changed slightly from the first pic but gauges still mounted the same way.
