Exhaust hanger at the transmission?

Postby Fred_M1010 » Wed May 11, 2011 4:22 am

My truck has begun to make a really disturbing noise from the exhaust system.
It looks like there should be some bushing-like hanger bolted to the transmission...?
But the rubber is gone on mine...

I can't find anything like it at rockauto.com
Does anyone have a part-number or should I just remove it and come up with something else...?

When I installed my 4" system I couldn't get things to line up with that bracket so I left it off. Haven't had any issues without it, so that's an option. I don't have a part number.

You need to figure out a way to hook that bracket on the trans up. Without it the next hanger in the exhaust system is at the muffler, and all the weight of the piping is on the turbo outlet flange. Sooner or later either the clamp, down pipe, or turbo flange is gonna give it up and then you will have a bigger mess imo. Rocky

Fixed it!

I found an old rubber hose that I used instead of a bushing.
It fitted perfectly after some pursuasion 8)

Good job Fred! Keep an eye on it to make sure the hose doesn't burn up with the heat.

I used my stock bracket with my 4" pipe, IIRC I trimmed the side so it would swing out a little farther away from the bell housing.

Just enough power to break everything behind the crankshaft.
