no power steering or breaks?

Postby Hansen01 » Thu Sep 15, 2011 6:10 pm

so i went to go pull a buddy out of a corn field today and out of no where i loose all power steering, so i think maybe theres air in the lines or something, so i got him out and started heading home and got to the first stop sign and have nooooo breaks just a super hard petal, what in the world is going on here? :? maybe a sheered key inside the cover?

Vacuum and PS are on the same gear. You are on the right track there.

I had the shaft between the vacume pump and ps pump sheer off on my 01 and caused the same issue.

But you would still have vacuum, no? IIRC, 2nd Gens had a hydroboost brake system that ran off the powersteering pump...

I couldn't tell you because about 30 seconds later it made a right turn by itself and I took on 15' of ditch and landed nose down in a 20-25' hole. I meant the steering issue in my above post.

Not all 2nd gens, I've had a 94,95,and one junk 96 that had vacuum boosters, however I don't know about the other 2 years of P-pump trucks. I've never seen a 24 valver without hydroboost brakes

I would doubt it would go bad over time, its not a gallon of milk
You more than likely have something it drives froze up, vacuum pump or P.S.pump

My buddy had one just break. I don't think he replaced anything but the shaft. I don't think the pump let go of anything, he just lost the vac and ps.

There sure is.......tear it down ;). I think your headed that direction any how.

Its weird to me that a shaft would just break without a cause. There is,however, one thing I've learned about any vehicle, there is no "never" and there is no "always" to any aspect of them so "who knows" applies every time.
