What size brake line for new front to rear when ABS gone?

Postby Diesel » Wed Apr 25, 2012 11:24 am

I just removed my ABS module from the rear and one of the lines twisted off like a twizzler

So I guess I will be running a new line from front to rear. What size should I be picking up from the parts store? Any idea on how many feet?

I would take in a piece that you took off, so that a good match can be made. As for length, I usually use a tape measure and make a educated guesstimation as to how much length is needed. I have used the generic straight lengths before and used the appropriate union to put two shorter pieces together to make one very long piece.

So am I seeing this correctly that the line runs between the fuel tank and the frame rail? Any tips on how to run that?

If you've never dropped your tank before, you may as well do it now. The steel lines that run back there for your fuel inlet and return are probably in just as bad of shape as the brake line was.

It won't be too long before you're dropping it trying to chase down a priming problem.

Otherwise, just throw some tape over the end and jam it through there.

I would drop the tank but the truck is really rust free and so are the brake lines. I just want to replace the lines so that there is a single line coming from the proportioning valve down to the center rubber line instead of the ABS style hardline setup.

Just cap the end somehow and push it thru. I had my tank out and put a piece of black plastic water line tubing in the frame for times like this. 1 1/2" port from front of tank to the rear for wires, lines, or what ever.

If it's as clean as you say, just splice it in the CORRECT way, with a double flare, and put in a coupler.
Just running a long line with no support, just seems wrong to me.

Like 3 foot lengths of rubber fuel hose for a fuel system, kind of wrong. :cheese:

Its cleaner than I say but a daddy has to be modest about his boy or else he'll grow up to be a brat :D

A double flare on the stock line with a coupler is exactly what I ended up doing.

I'm betting that it was likely MUCH easier than the other way, wasn't it? ;)

Well Mark you're discounting how fun it is to be on your back bending an easily kinked tube around a vehicle...only to get near where you want to be and then come to realize the monthly payment for that 2013 Cummins you considered wouldn't have been SOOO bad...NOT!!!

I ran new lines on an old truck. I pre-bent the rear lines to match what I could see, taped off the end, and fished it down the rail.
