Crooked Steering wheel

When i drive straight down the highway my steering wheel is not straight with the truck. I have had my truck aligned and all of the ball joints replaced so i know there is no play. Is this common with these trucks and is there an easy way to fix it besides pulling the steering wheel off and messing up the blinker part in the steering column making it not even? The truck seems to pull to the right also when i am driving the highway.

Pulling to the right could be a caliper dragging, worn steering shaft, or even a low tire (but i assume you've already checked that). Get the wheels straight, pull the steering wheel & realign it. I've had to do several like that, it didn't affect the blinkers.

You could also pick up a draglink from a 3/4-1 ton Chevy pickup. They have a draglink that functions like our tie rod. You can shorten/lengthen it since it's not all one piece and that would align your steering wheel as well.


It just depends on whether or not the deal you find on one is worth the time it takes to pull your steering wheel.

it was just aligned and i know for sure my brake caliper is not dragging. Is there any adjustments that i can make besides pulling the steering wheel and buying something?

Have you checked your wheel bearings and tire pressure? I know you had an alignment but it could have been someone that didn't know what they were doing or alignment rack could be off.

I had a truck that pulled right since I bought it. I went through everything trying to get it to track straight.Finally I loosened the front u bolts,loosened the center spring pack bolts and used a come a long to pull the right side of the axle forward and the left one back.Then I tightened the axle u bolts back up and the spring pack nut.
There is a surprising amount of fore/aft adjustment in the spring packs. The taller the stack of leaves,the more adjustment. It could be that someone hit something with the right wheel and bent the center spring pack bolt,or shoved it back a bit. This would be easy for an alignment shop to check. [>=<]

You can't really adjust Dodge steering because of the solid draglink. It only takes a couple minutes to pull the steering wheel & reindex it.

What about dropping the arm off the power steering box and moving it 1 spline or something of that nature?

I would think that taking the steering wheel off would probably be easier that taking off the pitman arm.

If dodge is like any other manufacturer then there are master splines that will only allow it to move in 1/4 turns. Another words that won't work

If you have a neighbor with a bunch of junk Chevy pickups laying around, and who doesn't, the draglink can just be taken off a 3/4 ton truck and stuck on ours.

Throw a couple new rod ends on it and it'll probably end up a lot cheaper.

It seems no one knows about the adjustable king pin on the bottom left that can be used to center the wheel instead of the drag link. I don't understand y no one ever talks about this part.
