I know what you mean about the cows getting hostile, I finally told mine to get out of the house and go shopping or something.

I don't mind the snow or cold that much, I just hate the short days. I get off work at 4:30 and it feels like I'm racing the night to get anything done. Even when I'm in the shop, I glance out the window and see pitch black, my body says it's time to grab a beer and hit the hay. Then I notice it's like 8:30 as I'm driving home.

Cold and snow don't bother me, but it's the 40* and melting snow one day and 5* with a wind chill of -15* the next. The roads are going to hell in a hurry.

It could be worse though. It's probably dark for 20-22 hours a day up in Alaska. And it's 0* everyday.

So h&s released some new rail pressure maps for the 4th gens that should let me command the rail pressure I want when it's cold out. I have a single event tune and a tune with pilot made up using the new maps, and when I get home I'll load them up and try them out

The ice can suck on my sack! So far this week we blew a hydraulic line in one plow, somebody bent the other one. I'm still not sure how the hell they did that. Working 12+ at work then helping the old man has been killing me. He lost an alternator and belt yesterday morning and the 2nd trans in his truck now. That puts me working all day and then trying to keep up with his contracts by myself. We have been struggling to do that running two trucks.

Do you have enough residual snow to need to pick it up and haul it off? Guys are running into that now around here.

Do you think them being fords might have something to do with it?

Also. I loaded the single event tune onto my truck, and rail pressure went from 4-5 thousand psi at idle to the 7-8 thousand I'm commanding. Hopefully that'll help with mileage and smoke and egts I guess

Truck was a salvage truck that had been flooded which killed the first one. Last one he bought from the junk yard. I finally talked him into calling Ford. He can get a new one with 3 year warranty for under $2k. Plowing isn't easy on them either.

E4OD, I assume? I've heard they rival a 46/47/RH/RE in simplicity. Parts are supposed to be cheap too.

Yeah Caleb but I'm not screwing with it because I'll never hear the end of it if something screws up. There was no slipping it lost od yesterday on I75 then wouldn't move today.

You heard wrong! They are a gigantic cluster wHat? Waiting to happen. They are NOT cheap to build either unless your buying el cheapo parts. The solenoid pack in that thing cost close to 350$ at ford,225 at transtar. The banner Kit (clutches, papers, seals) is 175$ where the dodge stuff cost less than 150.

Totally different animal

They can be simple to someone thats built a few,but if you've never been there before it'll kick your rear into oblivion. One wrong move, wrong stack up of plates and your screwed, leave a thrust bearing out and it'll eat itself.

About the only thing on a E4od I find simple is the valve body, three different levels, and all valves are exposed so you can actuate them with a pick. Very handy when you inspect one. The only valves that are totally concealed are the shift valves, you only need to fool with those when you do a shift kit....that is way easier than a dodge trans.... :)

Hey I don't want to start another lift pump thread for this question........

I have the 94 to 98 lift pump do all I need to do is get the spring kit from hungry diesel and it will have the right pressure? I have the other fuel line already also.

Correct... assuming that is not an aftermarket pump. It may still work, however... there may or may not be differences in some of the aftermarket pump's plunger... and thus causing different spring rates.

Oh, and do you have the 1/4" spacer ?

Oh those damned Ford people led me astray. How dare they with their 20 year old trucks that you actually can find parts for! How dare they with their locking converters and trucks constructed of real sheet metal and not tin foil! How dare they with their transfer cases that drop the right way!

We're finally getting some real winter here in SW WA. Been snowing almost all day and the temp has stuck at about 16 F all day. I was going to start pulling my trans tonight but my pickup won't start so I can get it in the shop. Plugged it in a few hours ago, now I just need to quit being so lazy and go try it again.
