p7100 swap question

Ok, I'm not p pumping a first gen!

I have a 92 parts truck and it has a puked pump on it... My 95 i guess had a piston problem when I got it, and I'm pretty sure I have a burnt piston...

What all do I have to take into account to put the ve motor in the 95 with a p pump? I know I need the gears and timing cover swapped out. My curiosity comes in here. What are the differences in the piston? I know the 91-93 pistons supposedly have a really small bowl.

I am going to de-tune the pump when i swap them.

As far as I know, the bowls of the IC 1stgen pistons are the same as the 2nd gen 12v piston bowls. There may be a difference on one ring, but the bowls should be the same.

Oughta be the same pistons, you'll have to yank the cam and swap the actual timing case itself as well. Also swap to the p-pump injectors. The shutoff solenoid is a bastard on those pumps, if you don't go pull cable you'll have to setup a dedicated pull wire hooked to your start circuit.


Also, there shouldn't be any need to detune the pump, it's the same longblock.

Easy fix.....run a wire from the motor side of the starter solenoid then attach the other end of the wire to the pull coil on the shutdown solenoid.....fixed no fancy foot work required

isn't this going in his 95 that's already ppumped??? should just be able to swap everything over and plug in..

The adapter plate will need swapped and starter, intake horn, lines ect. pistons are the same.

Yes, the whole mess is going back in the 95, so it should all be plug n play. I know the front case and gears all have to be swapped, along with the lines and injectors... did you say i gotta pull te cam and swap them?

Could be. but I thought I read someplace when I was going to swap to a p7100 that they was different...I could of miss read it also. I got a whole engine that threw a rod so I didn't worry about it since I had everything anyways.

I might be wrong, but I think the 94-98 cams are a little more aggressive than the 1st gen cam

HA! guess that goes to show don't believe everything you're told....I guess I was told wrong when I was going to swap pumps. I don't even remember where I was told that. but I just remember someone telling me swap gears and the cam was the same.... I'll just shut up now lol.
