Friend of mine us in the process of building something similar. He's using a 6V53, only with a 13spd Eaton Fuller, and stuffed it into a square body Chevy. He wanted to keep it 4wd, so he scrounged up an IH t case from some late 50's early 60's medium duty truck. Still sits on Dana 60/14bolt, and he's running 37" HMMWV tires.

Its needs to be finished, but its fun to bomb around the back roads with it,

That thing sounds so bad ass. Though I think it'd sound better with a 13 speed and a bigger charger so you get some decent whistle like my 80 gives.

On another note I've got most of the 2nd gen seats for The Roo Hunter. Just waiting on the centre console

Ellis.......maybe you should try a ve out. Fun little guys, make ok power for what they are. And mine will start with low 20s on timing, with no grid heater, nor block heater... at 0 degrees. (ok, used to...know more like 15).

Funny

I have always loved the sound of a two stroke Detroit. They have to be the loudest, engine noise to size, motor that I've ever been around.

I am 40% deaf in my right ear from years of listening to screaming jimmys on the rigs. Still love the way they sound, and how quick revving and responsive they are. Makes shifting a 13 speed seem like you are shifting a Honda civic. Unlike a cat, where you gotta wait an eternity for the revs to drop enough to stick the next gear. We had a pump truck tractor on this one rig that had a 8v92 twin turbo rated for 500 hp, with a 5 spd allison. Without the trailer that sucker could churn gravel through the first two gears and fifty yards no problem if you foot braked it a little bit.

Friends 04 has transfer case slipping, he says front driveshaft kinda ratchets when in 4x, I'm thinking its either shift fork or chain. I believe they had the 273 tcase. He plows with it so I think either one could be worn out.

I need ideas. I have a 2nd kid on the way and I am debating a few things.

Things like a bench seat in the 1st Gen
94-99 Suburban body swap
TDI powered Caravan
Merc Powered Trailblazer or Tahoe

She has an ultrasound on the 4th of December to see how many she is carrying. We have quite a few sets of twins on both sides of the family so the advent of having a set isn't lost on us.

With a 2nd, maybe 3rd kid on the way you will need room and money. A TDI powered Caravan is not a bad idea. Room and good on fuel.
RIP 91.5 W250 5 speed. The great experiment.

Your close enough to me that if you ever want to meet up and look at the van/ chat - send me a message. I don't mind sharing info on the swap and tips.

Edit: we considered the suburban/cummins swap before we did the tdi windstar and unless you happen to have a cummins and a suburban available on the cheap, the economics just doesn't work. A cummins/suburban won't get enough better mpg to ever be cheaper than a gas minivan. Unless of course your going after the fun factor, then go ahead. :D

congrats btw! 8)

I'm good now tho....the factory one was bad. It's cranking easier with the 24v unit, still won't warm the water enough for warm air in the cab at start up.....the dodge does tho,it's dead tho.....more on that later :(

The heaters are the same for a 12 or 24 valve, FYI. My truck has 18*of timing and it starts hard if I don't cycle the gridsand just crank it. Also smokes like a SOB when it does start.

Tom, check the splines on the front driveshaft before you get too deep, I've seen a lot of them that are very sloppy and make nasty noises when they slip.

Congratulations Jon! 8)

So have to be in to work at 3:30 for snow. Come on overtime. I did buy 480 pounds of sand bags and throw in the bed of the dodge to help.

I like concrete sidewalk blocks for winter weight. They're about 100 pounds each, and clean up easier after winter. If you're ok with building a sidewalk 6 blocks a year that's good too
