Hydro boost

Postby redneckroot » Tue Jan 24, 2012 9:42 am

I've read through the posts around and am looking for:

What all is needed
What trucks?
What years of those trucks?
Anyone have part numbers?
How much better is it for those who have done it? I plan on yanking the gooseneck around this summer and would like to tackle this while I swap out the 727 for a nv4500.

thanks.

I know this has been talked about. I've searched and read but have seen both the dodge and chevy set ups which one is best? What years?

I used mid-90's chevy diesel booster/master/lines with a 2nd gen dodge powersteering pump.

The booster has the same mounting holes, you just need to flip the bracket over and open up the center hole in the firewall. Also the rod needs shortened and the end is different (I cut the end off my stock dodge vacuum booster and welded it to the chevy booster at the correct length)

The lines take some fiddling with but I don't recall what exactly I did with them.

I had the return line tee'd into the steering box return in that pic, but I have since put on the 2nd gen pump which has 2 return line nipples.

Was it worth doing? I'm looking to be able to yank the pulling truck around and I hate the factory brakes.

I'd do it again if I had to. My vacuum pump is getting weak so you would hit the brakes 2-3 times then lose vacuum assist for a while. Not very fun when towing stuff.
